About this site
Hanauma Bay is a volcanic crater bay on the southeast coast of Oahu, Hawaii, protected as a marine life conservation area and nature preserve. Its shallow, calm, reef-lined waters make it a popular spot for snorkeling and easy shore diving, with entry from the beach out over coral flats. The main reef flat sits at around 2 metres, making it a beginner dive suited to the sheltered inner bay, while the outer edges near the reef channel drop off and can carry more current and are best left to more experienced divers. Divers here have reported angelfish, butterflyfish, and parrotfish among the reef life, a reflection of decades of protection within the bay.
