About this site
Hanauma Bay is a marine life conservation area on Oahu in Hawaii, regarded as perhaps the most famous snorkelling spot in the islands. The bay is also described as a marine sanctuary, and it is closed on Tuesdays to help preserve the reef.
It is a beginner-level reef site with good visibility, and it can be visited at any time of year. Angelfish, butterflyfish and parrotfish are the fish most often mentioned here, along with the humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa, the Hawaii state fish.
