About this site
Hateruma Higashi (波照間東) is a wall site off the east of Hateruma Island in the Yaeyama Islands, Okinawa, dived at depths of 15 to 30 m, and only on calm days between May and August. Divers hold along the drop-off waiting for large fish: dogtooth tuna of around 1.5 m, Napoleon wrasse, schools of two-spot red snapper and sleek unicornfish, redtooth triggerfish, Kashiwa anthias and palette surgeonfish. Weather, tide reading and diver level all have to line up for it to be dived.
