About this site
Hateruma is Japan's southernmost inhabited island, part of the Yaeyama island group in Okinawa Prefecture, and Nishinohama is a beach on its northwest coast known locally for calm, shallow water and a sandbar that extends out at low tide. The island sits well south of the main Okinawan chain, reached by ferry from Ishigaki.
