About this site
Himezu Arch (姫津 アーチ) is a boat-dive site at Himezu on the Sotokaifu coast of Sado Island, Niigata, five minutes from the harbour, with a maximum depth of 30 m and an average around 15 m. The dramatic coastal terrain continues underwater as a rock arch opening onto a pool beyond, and a school of rockfish gathers in the arch itself. Usually no current, but occasionally very strong; suitable from beginner level, keeping the group tight through the arch. Damselfish, nudibranchs, gobies and wrasse are typical, and large pelagics pass through fairly often.
