About this site
Izu Ocean Park Kakeagari-Sunaji Fish Reef (かけあがり〜砂地漁礁) is a shore-entry site at Izu Ocean Park, Yawatano, Ito, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, with a maximum depth of 18 m and beyond, suitable from beginner level. A slope of large boulders leads down to open sand whose gentle gradient lets each group pick a depth to suit its level, with seasonal schools of mullet, largescale blackfish, silver-stripe round herring, cardinalfish and surgeonfish. The artificial reef on the sand lies past 18 m and is always busy with small fish, cardinalfish, hawkfish and scorpionfish, and angel sharks, guitarfish, flounder and eagle rays may be met on the way out.
