About this site
Kajiwarajima (梶原島) is a boat dive at Shirahama on the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama, twelve minutes from the harbour, about 70 to 80 m off the islet of the same name, with a maximum depth of 27 m and an average around 14 m. A large base reef is surrounded by boulders 5 to 6 m across with swim-throughs between them and a vertical wall with a 10 m drop, dotted with soft coral and large vase sponges. Patches of sand hold large rays such as butterfly rays, chicken grunt school among the boulders and grouper species including leopard coral grouper and squaretail grouper sit near the bottom. Current at times, suitable from beginner/novice level.
