About this site
Sengoku Oki (千石沖) is a boat dive at Shirahama on the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama, six minutes from the harbour, with a maximum depth of 25 m and an average around 17 m. A long, narrow reef runs offshore over a bottom of boulders with little sand, and the site is dived mainly for small life rather than big fish. Crustaceans such as anemone shrimp, whip-coral shrimp, mantis shrimp and squat lobsters are regular, along with a variety of nudibranchs and ovulid snails on the sea fans, and anthias school over soft coral along the wall with frogfish lying in wait among them. Little current, suitable from beginner/novice level.
