About this site
Kawana Akane (赤根) is a boat-dive site 10 minutes out from Kawana, Ito, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, with a maximum depth of 30 m and an average around 15 m, suitable from beginner level but exposed to current. It is open only from June to September, being a ground the local fishermen protect closely. Hidden pinnacles carry fine soft coral, purple sea-butterfly nudibranchs and others sit openly on the rock, a jawfish colony lives on the sand, and eagle rays and anemonefish are seen.
