About this site
Kawana Uma no Se (馬の背) is a boat-dive site 7 minutes out from Kawana, Ito, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, with a maximum depth of 24 m and an average around 15 m, suitable from beginner level with little current, and open year-round. It is the closest boat site to the harbour, named for a long, horseback-shaped reef, with five buoys each giving a different dive over the main reef, outlying rocks and hidden pinnacles. Japanese bullhead sharks, banded houndsharks, guitarfish, eagle rays, longnose hawkfish, frogfish and nudibranchs are found here.
