About this site
Keikai (ケイカイ) is a shore-entry site on Izu Oshima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo, next to Noda Hama but completely different in character. Long, narrow reefs run in parallel like folding screens with channels between them, which makes it easy to lose track of position but allows many route choices; maximum depth 18 m, average around 12 m, suitable from beginner level, with current that is sometimes strong. The routes overlap with where the tidal flow hits, and the current can run in opposite directions on either side of a reef, so surfacing to confirm the exit point at the end is advisable.
