About this site
Swedish Red Cross cargo ship Embla, known as Le Suédois, sunk on 19 April 1944 by RAF Beaufighters while carrying parcels for Wehrmacht prisoners in North Africa. The 69 m hull lies almost complete on mud in 34 m, with the upper parts around 24 to 28 m, about 6.5 km off the Grau-du-Roi coast. Many nets make the tour delicate and visibility is rarely more than a few metres; the wreck is thickly colonised by sponges, hydroids and jewel anemones.
