About this site
The schooner Lucy Clark was loading cordwood at Cross Village when winds rose and she was blown onto shore. The tug SS Coe from Milwaukee came and pulled her off, and was taking her to Sturgeon Bay when her steering broke and she was forced to turn back. A gale came up, and they cut the Clark loose to run for shelter, while the Clark went to anchor. The Clark crew headed for shore in the yawl, and the Clark capsized and sank, while the crew's boat also capsized near shore with the loss of 3 lives. Lies in about 15.2 m; sank 1883.
