About this site
Matsu no Shita (松の下) is a shallow boat-dive site at Shizugawa in Minamisanriku on the Sanriku coast of Miyagi, seven minutes from the harbour, with a maximum depth of 9 m and an average around 5 m. Reefs of various sizes are scattered across the site, and the shallow depth suits novice divers and photographers who want long bottom times. Suitable from beginner level. The rock faces are colonised by sea pineapple (Halocynthia sea squirts), barnacles and colourful sponges.
