About this site

Mauan lies off Mauwang Island in West Manggarai Regency, within the Komodo National Park area of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, and is typically reached by boat from Labuan Bajo across the channels south of Flores. The site is a reef dive to a maximum depth of around 20 metres, rated intermediate with medium current and generally good visibility. Frogfish, leaf scorpionfish, manta rays, and nudibranchs are all found here, and divers have also reported batfish, cuttlefish, garden eels, mantis shrimp, octopus, ornate ghost pipefish, pipefish, sea turtles, seahorses, snapper, and wrasse. Currents can run strong around full moon and new moon periods, so timing a dive here is worth checking in advance.
