MV Karwela & MV Cominoland

The MV Karwela and MV Cominoland are two former passenger ferries scuttled off Gozo near Xatt l-Ahmar as artificial reef dive sites, part of a small cluster of wrecks in the area. Both were sunk in 2006 and now settle on a sandy slope not far from each other, making it possible to combine the two on a single outing or across two dives from shore or boat. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 42 metres and is rated technical, with the wrecks largely intact and penetrable in places for those with wreck training. Divers have reported barracuda, grouper, moray eels, and nudibranchs around the structures, alongside the encrusting growth that has built up on the hulls over the years. The deeper penetration routes and seabed depths suit divers with technical training, while shallower sections nearer the top of the wrecks are more approachable under good conditions.
