About this site
The Naeco was a tanker torpedoed by a German U-boat off the North Carolina coast in 1942, during the height of the U-boat campaign along the U.S. eastern seaboard. Its stern section lies separated from the bow, part of the scattered wreckage typical of the Graveyard of the Atlantic. This stretch of ocean off North Carolina holds numerous merchant and tanker wrecks from that period, many now sitting in deeper offshore waters that see substantial current from the nearby Gulf Stream.
