About this site
USS Aeolus (ARC-3) lies off Morehead City, North Carolina, part of the state's well known artificial reef corridor. It was a cable repair ship that served in World War II and was later sunk deliberately in 1988 to create a dive site and habitat structure. The wreck has broken up considerably over the decades, partly due to storm damage, and now rests in sections on the sandy bottom in a maximum depth of around 31 metres. It is generally rated an intermediate dive and is commonly reached by boat out of Morehead City and Beaufort, alongside other wrecks in that area.
