About this site
Shirasama (シラサマ) is a shore or boat dive at Owase on the Kii Peninsula coast of Mie, entered from the beach beside Miyajima Park, with a maximum depth of 18 m and an average around 8 m. Many small rock outcrops sit on coarse sand with schools of cardinalfish and blue damselfish, nudibranchs, commensal shrimp and crabs, while flying gurnards, flathead and conger eels hide in the sand and turtles appear at times. It faces the open sea so visibility is good and it is used for courses; night dives are by boat only. Little current, suitable from beginner/novice level.
