About this site
The Sea Gull was a wrecking tug owned by Captain James Reid, a noted salvor of the time. She was towing a disabled steamer in Lake Huron when fire broke out below decks, quickly forcing the crew to abandon her. A passing vessel came to their aid, putting out the fire and moving the hulk to the shores of Bois Blanc Island near the lighthouse, where it was abandoned. Lies in about 4.6 m; sank 1893.
