About this site
Sekitei (石庭) is a shallow shore-entry site at Tatsunokuchi in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, reached from the sandy entry area inside the bay, with depths of about 3 to 6 m and suitable from beginner level. Sunlight reaches the bottom on fine days, lighting hard coral colonies where neon damselfish live, with damselfish, anemonefish, wrasses, nudibranchs and butterflyfish around them. Schools of silver-stripe round herring pass near the surface and bigfin reef squid appear, so there is plenty for photographers as well as beginners.
