About this site
Maehama (前浜) is a shallow boat-dive site on the Shakotan Peninsula in Hokkaido, four minutes from Horomui harbour, with a maximum depth of 13 m and an average around 7 m. The bottom is large bedrock with columnar jointing, and the site is used for introductory dives and night dives. Little current; suitable from beginner/novice level. Fat greenling, rockfish, juvenile sheepshead wrasse and striped beakfish, gobies, wrasse and swimming crabs are typical, with sea ravens, atka mackerel and giant Pacific octopus from late October and lumpfish from mid-November.
