About this site
Nagashima (長島) is a boat-dive site on the Shakotan Peninsula in Hokkaido, about six minutes from Horomui harbour, with a maximum depth of 15 m and an average around 8 m. The sandy bottom slopes away gradually from about 8 m, and the site is used as a standard point for training and introductory dives. Little current; suitable from beginner/novice level. Typical life includes fat greenling, several rockfish species, juvenile Asian sheepshead wrasse and striped beakfish, with sea ravens, Okhotsk atka mackerel and giant Pacific octopus from late October, and lumpfish, balloon lumpfish and Steller sea lions from mid-November.
