About this site
Shirakata (白方) is a boat dive at Susami on the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama, about ten minutes from the harbour, with a maximum depth of 65 m and an average around 16 m. A large reef rises sheer from 65 m and the current rarely stops, so the site is for very experienced divers only, restricted to those with at least 100 logged dives, and diving below 39 m is prohibited. Pelagic fish are joined by dolphinfish and Spanish mackerel, along with pennant bannerfish, chicken grunt, amberjack and opaleye.
