About this site
Tatawa Kecil is a small island site in Komodo National Park, in the strait area near Tatawa and Sebayur within West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, typically dived from boats out of Labuan Bajo. It is a reef site with a sloping bottom, rated a beginner dive but shaped by strong currents that make it a favorite drift, with a maximum depth of around 30 metres and generally good visibility. Barracuda, batfish, fusiliers, trevally, napoleon wrasse, nudibranchs and manta rays are regularly seen along the reef, and divers have also reported eagle rays, bumphead parrotfish, sweetlips, snapper, tuna, octopus and hammerhead sharks passing through. The strong currents that define the site are a confirmed hazard, and divers have additionally described down currents, split currents and sea snakes, including banded sea kraits and olive sea snakes, in the area. The island itself remains uninhabited, one of many small landmasses scattered through the park's central waters.
