USS New York

Olongapo sits on Subic Bay, on the west coast of Luzon in the Philippines, an area long associated with the former US Naval Base Subic Bay. The USS New York rests here as one of several scuttled or sunk vessels from the naval station era, reachable by boat from the town, with a maximum depth of about 18 metres over a wreck bottom. It is rated an advanced dive despite light current and good visibility, largely because full exploration involves penetrating the structure, and divers have flagged silting inside as well as passing ship traffic overhead. Angelfish, barracuda, grouper, sweetlips, and sea turtles have been reported around the hull, along with lionfish and scorpionfish tucked into its recesses, and lobster have also been spotted there.
