USS Saratoga

The USS Saratoga is an aircraft carrier sunk during the 1946 Baker atomic bomb test at Bikini Atoll, part of the postwar Operation Crossroads trials. It sits upright on the lagoon floor, largely intact, with its flight deck at a depth of around 30 metres and the hull extending down past 50 metres. Divers can explore the island superstructure, deck guns, and aircraft still present in the hangar bays, making it one of the largest diveable wrecks in the world. Because of the depth and the scale of the structure, it is considered a technical or advanced dive, typically requiring mixed gas and undertaken through specialist liveaboard operations that run trips to Bikini Atoll.
