About this site
The USS Anderson is one of several target ships sunk during the 1946 Operation Crossroads nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. A destroyer, it was positioned close to the test detonations and sank in the atoll's lagoon, where it now rests among other Crossroads fleet wrecks such as the Saratoga and the Nagato. Diving at Bikini is limited to occasional liveaboard expeditions given the atoll's remoteness and its history as a nuclear test site. These lagoon wrecks are generally considered advanced dives, owing to their depth and the technical diving conditions typical of the site.
