Anemone Reef

Anemone Reef is a submerged pinnacle dive site near Phuket, Thailand, situated close to King Cruiser, Shark Point, and Koh Doc Mai — sites that are frequently combined into a single day trip. The reef takes its name from the dense covering of pink, purple, green, and blue anemones that coat its structure; when a slight current runs, the entire reef appears to sway in unison. The shallowest point sits 6 m below the surface, with a maximum depth of 26 m, and a mooring buoy line aids controlled descents and ascents. The recommended technique is to begin at maximum depth and spiral upward around the main pinnacle; just off the main structure, a few small boulders offer additional exploration.

Marine life at Anemone Reef is varied: Leopard Sharks are spotted resting on the bottom, while Bearded Scorpionfish, Moray Eels, Octopus, and Spiny Lobster occupy the reef itself. Pelagic hunters — including Jacks, Mackerel, Tuna, and Trevallies — patrol the water column, and Great Barracuda and Yellow-Tailed Barracuda lurk just off the reef edge. Smaller, macro-oriented finds include Nudibranchs, Pipefish, Seahorses, and Peacock Mantis Shrimp. The site is diveable year-round.

Visibility ranges from 5 m to 20 m, and current varies from weak to strong; when a small surging current is present it animates the anemones most dramatically. The site is rated suitable for Open Water divers and upward, and the buoy line makes it accessible to less experienced divers, while also fitting naturally into Adventure and Advanced course programmes.
