About this site
Bakene (化け根) is a boat-dive site off Iwa, Manazuru, on the western side of Sagami Bay in Kanagawa, with a maximum depth of 28 m and an average around 15 m, intermediate and above. It is the most dramatic terrain in the Iwa area, a drop-off falling from the reef top at 5 m to 25 m, and being on the open sea it carries current at times. Pelagics pass along the wall and warm-water species live on its face, so good buoyancy control is needed.
