About this site
Takarajima Higashi (美国宝島 東) is a boat-dive site on the east side of Takarajima at Bikuni on the Shakotan Peninsula, Hokkaido, about four minutes from Bikuni harbour, with a maximum depth of 22 m and an average around 6 m. The terrain is a typical slope from rocky ground at 6 m down to a sandy bottom at 22 m, with eelgrass beds, and it is used for macro and wide-angle photography as well as training and introductory dives. Suitable from beginner level. Fat greenling, rockfish, silver-stripe round herring, juvenile sheepshead wrasse, sea ravens, atka mackerel, giant Pacific octopus, cup corals, fringed blennies and nudibranchs are typical, with Steller sea lions and seals from about December to March.
