About this site
Hirane (平根) is a long pinnacle exposed to the tidal stream, a two-and-a-half-hour boat run from Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands, Tokyo, with a maximum depth of 25 m and an average around 14 m. Schooling fish such as yellowback and dark-banded fusiliers are a given, and there are frequent chances of larger animals including spotted eagle rays. The current is strong and the site is for advanced divers only.
