Cod Hole

Cod Hole is a well known dive site on the far northern Great Barrier Reef, near Lizard Island off the coast of Queensland. It is famous for close encounters with large, resident potato cod that have become accustomed to divers over decades of feeding interactions run by dive operators. The site sits on a coral bommie formation with depths generally in the 10 to 20 metre range, making it accessible to most certified divers. It is typically visited on liveaboard trips out of Cairns or Port Douglas given its remote location, and beyond the potato cod, divers commonly see reef sharks, coral trout, and healthy hard coral growth.
