The Cod Hole

The Cod Hole is a well known dive site on the Great Barrier Reef off far north Queensland, near Lizard Island, part of the Ribbon Reefs. It is famous for close encounters with large potato cod that have become accustomed to divers and are often hand fed by guides on organised dives. The site sits on a reef with bommies and sandy patches, with a maximum depth of around 15 metres, and is rated a beginner dive. It is usually visited by liveaboards running out of Cairns or Port Douglas on multi-day Ribbon Reefs itineraries, and suits a wide range of experience levels since the main attraction is the fish interaction rather than depth or current.
