About this site
Ebise (海老瀬) is a boat dive at Shirahama on the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama, seven minutes from the harbour, with a maximum depth of 40 m and an average around 18 m. A drop-off falls straight from 16 m to 40 m, and because the site faces the open sea the current is often fast, making it a site for advanced divers only. Schools of chicken grunt, surgeonfish and anthias are joined by species found nowhere else in Shirahama, including longnose hawkfish, sunburst cup coral and striped anthias, and harlequin shrimp have been seen here.
