About this site
W Arch (Wアーチ) is a boat dive at Shirahama on the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama, five minutes from the harbour, off the underwater observation tower, with a maximum depth of 28 m and an average around 20 m. Two arches sit side by side on a long, narrow rock ridge, which gives the site its name. Because of the depth it is sheltered from wind and swell and is dived when the sea is rough elsewhere, and it holds species less common on the shallower sites such as pineconefish and blue-and-yellow grouper, along with large nudibranchs, longtooth grouper over a metre long, Asian sheepshead wrasse and schools of chicken grunt. Little current, intermediate and above.
