About this site
Enokuchi (江の口) is on the west side of Mikomoto Island off Shimoda, southern Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka, 16 minutes by boat, and serves as the island's gateway and boat landing. It is affected by the ebb rather than the flood, gets rough in a north-east wind, and the current strengthens sharply towards Aone and Mitsune, but the inside of the bay is relatively calm and workable for beginners who stay put; maximum depth 22 m, average around 17 m, from novice level. Yellowtail, amberjack, boarfish, takabe, chicken grunt, anemonefish, anthias, damselfish, Moorish idols and longtooth grouper are typical, with a rare chance of 3 m sand tiger sharks from June to August; rock anglers use the shore, so approaching the island itself is prohibited.
