About this site
Gontaro Iwa (権太郎岩) is a shore-entry pinnacle at Hayama on the Shonan coast of Kanagawa, reached by a surface swim of about 100 m, with a maximum depth of 18 m and an average around 7–8 m. Many artificial fish reefs cluster together to form the site, and the channels between them attract nudibranchs and other life, so the dive works whatever the visibility. Occasional weak current; suitable from beginner level. Fish school densely around the reefs, pelagics appear further out, and the terrain and fish density rival a boat site.
