About this site
Gorilla Iwa (ゴリラ岩) is a boat-dived pinnacle off Nango on the Nichinan coast of Miyazaki Prefecture, 10 minutes from harbour, with depths from 5 to 30 m. The dive runs in front of a rock shaped like a gorilla's face, with small crevasse-type terrain and schools of surgeonfish and largescale blackfish. The rock blocks westerly wind, so it is dived often in winter. Little current; suitable from beginner level.
