About this site
Hataka Ne (ハタカ根) is a boat site off Shikinejima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo, a large reef with a big cave at 27 m that is a colony of spiny lobster. Around the reef there are large schools of takabe and a good chance of big pelagics such as amberjack, yellowtail amberjack and Japanese amberjack; maximum depth 35 m, average around 20 m, intermediate to advanced, with fast current, so it is dived only at slack water. Advanced divers can also visit a further hidden spot, and chicken grunt, cardinalfish, angelfish, largescale blackfish and anemonefish are typical.
