About this site
Japanese Garden is a shallow coral reef in Aqaba, reached from shore or by boat, about 20 m out from the beach. It is rated a beginner dive and is also popular with snorkelers, and it is described as one of the prettiest sites in the area for its rocks and stones and its coral formations.
The reef starts in shallow water and slopes gradually to a coral bed with pinnacles, where large schools of fish gather. Depths run from about 5 m to 18 m, with fire coral and black coral among the features. Two boat moorings serve the site, and a long drift is possible.
Hawksbill turtles, shoaling barracuda, groupers, royal angelfish, moray eels and giant clams are all likely, along with shoals of sergeant majors and fusiliers. Conditions are calm with clear water, which makes it a good site for divers of every level.
