Kame Ne

Kame Ne (カメ根) is a boat site 16 minutes out to Mikomoto Island off Shimoda at the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka, and the island's signature pinnacle. Lying on the south-east side it is affected by both ebb and flood tides, and its intricate reefs make the current complex when swimming between them; maximum depth 30 m, average around 19 m, from novice level, with current. It has the highest rate of big-fish encounters here, with hammerheads, requiem sharks, yellowtail, amberjack, rainbow runners, eagle rays, red sea bream, parrotfish and schooling emperors, while the Kamesaku crevice just west holds packed damselfish, takabe and chicken grunt and a longtooth grouper of around 1 m often sits at its exit.
