About this site
Korai Sone (高麗曽根) is a boat dive on an isolated bank in the Kamigoto area of the Goto Islands, Nagasaki Prefecture, with a maximum depth of 30 m and an average around 18 m, for intermediate divers and above. The reef extends about 2 km around at depths of 5 to 30 m, with no island in sight, and sits directly in the Kuroshio Current, which brings high visibility and dense fish life. From late May to early June huge numbers of striped beakfish gather here to spawn, something rarely seen anywhere in Japan. The bank is linked to the legend of the lost island of Koraijima.
