About this site
Oki no Ne (沖の根) is the largest of the offshore hidden reefs at Kumomi on the west coast of the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka, a boat ride of 7 minutes or more. The pinnacle rises from a bottom at 60 m to a top at around 10 m; maximum depth 60 m, average around 20 m, intermediate and above, with current. Panicking baitfish signal passing pelagics such as yellowtail, yellowtail amberjack, chicken grunt, takabe and round herring, sakura anthias shelter in metre-wide cup coral colonies, and dolphinfish and bonito can appear near the surface during the safety stop, along with wrasse, parrotfish, eagle rays and red sea bream.
