About this site
Takenoko (タケノコ) is the southernmost of the currently open sites at Kumomi on the west coast of the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka, a boat ride of 7 minutes or more. The bottom lies at 60 m; maximum depth 60 m, average around 20 m, intermediate and above, with current, and the up-current side of the reef is the place to be. It is known for longtooth grouper well over 1 m long that gather in groups, with yellowtail, yellowtail amberjack, chicken grunt, takabe, round herring, wrasse, parrotfish, eagle rays and red sea bream, and dolphinfish and bonito may pass near the surface during the safety stop.
