About this site
Kyokucho Hama (局長浜) is a boat site 10 minutes from Hachijojima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo, dived along a short drop-off. Ribbon eels appear every year once the water warms, and the drop-off holds soldierfish, cardinalfish, butterflyfish and wrasses; maximum depth 30 m, average around 16 m, suitable from beginner level, with current at times. Dogtooth tuna and other large pelagics patrol the drop-off, bigfin reef squid are also seen, and a surface marker must be sent up before ascending as the site lies on a fishing-boat route.
