About this site
Oasa Ne (オアサ根) is a boat site 10 minutes from Hachijojima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo, entered near a shallow reef whose top sits at exactly 5 m. Countless damselfish swim around the reef and Hachijo's characteristic hawkfish can be found in the shallows; maximum depth 30 m, average around 15 m, suitable from beginner level, with current at times. The bottom deepens gradually offshore, where schools of skipjack and hammerhead sharks are sometimes met, and a surface marker must be sent up before ascending as the site lies on a fishing-boat route.
