About this site
Nishijima Kita (西島北) is a boulder slope off Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands, Tokyo, 20 minutes by boat, with a maximum depth of 25 m and an average around 12 m. The endemic red spiny lobster shelters among the boulders and glass cardinalfish gather in dense clouds, with glasseyes, yellowfin goatfish, chevron butterflyfish and Japanese angelfish also present. Dogtooth tuna and almaco jacks pass through occasionally; current runs at times and the site is suitable from beginner level.
