About this site
Okubobana (大久保鼻) is a boat-dived drift site just north of Okubo fishing harbour on Tanegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture, about 25 minutes by boat, with a maximum depth of 25 m. The boat stops in front of a rock that rears out of the sea and divers enter on a drift; the current is mild at first but switches to a very fast run at the tip of the rock, and any lapse in attention will carry a diver away. Spiny lobster show from the rock crevices, spotted eagle rays hover in the flow and anthias fill the channel. Strong current; advanced divers only.
