About this site
Urata Beach (浦田ビーチ) is a shore-entry site in Urata Bay on the north of Tanegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture, with a maximum depth of 18 m. Rock runs along the left of the bay and sand along the right, and the deep inlet keeps it calm in anything but a north-easterly wind. Jawfish in both black and yellow forms, pink frogfish and a range of nudibranchs are the macro draws, while island trevally, bigeye trevally and spotted eagle rays also appear, though the long walk over white sand with a tank is the drawback. Suitable from beginner level.
