About this site
Otochigahama (乙千代ヶ浜) is a shore-entry site on Hachijojima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo, with two entry points used according to conditions. From the right-hand entry there is a cave around 30 m long housing spiny lobster and slipper lobster with schools of sweepers and soldierfish, while the left-hand entry follows a channel lined with anemonefish that opens onto a dramatic drop-off plunging to 35 m; maximum depth 40 m, average around 12 m, suitable from beginner level, with some current that is fast at times. Parking is restricted from 20 July to 30 September, and as the beach holds the school pool and a swimming area, local rules on parking and setting up apply.
